Code of Conduct

  • All Faraway staff and members will abide by the following rules, and everyone will be treated equally and fairly

  • We all agree to be considerate, kind, tolerant and understanding to one another.

  • The groups start at the advertised time, please arrive promptly. If you are going to be late, please let one of the Peer Mentors know (text their work phone)

  • We have a signing in book, please sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave.

  • You are free to talk as much or as little as you like - there is no expectation.

  • Have consideration for different communication styles; please do not dominate the conversation. Everyone should have the opportunity to speak if they want to.

  • Please respect people’s boundaries

  • You are free to leave whenever you like, please tell a Peer Mentor or sign out before you go.

  • Individuals have responsibility for their own emotional regulation- these groups are not therapy. If we feel you need more support, we will signpost you to the appropriate services

  • Discussion and debate are acceptable; argument is not. This is an inclusive space, bigotry in all forms will not be tolerated, alongside rude or malicious behaviour

  • If you see people from the group in day-to-day life, it’s fine to say hello but respect confidentiality; please don’t out people, they may not feel comfortable with others knowing they are autistic. Please also consider their boundaries

  • If you are unwell, please do not attend. Some of our members are at a higher risk of infection

  • If there is a problem during the group or you feel unwell, please inform one of the Peer Mentors

  • We have a “no drama” policy - interpersonal issues that arise outside of this group should not be brought into the group.

  • We have a legal obligation to keep our members safe from harm and abuse, so if a safeguarding concern is raised, the individual will be notified that this is happening and the details will be passed to our safeguarding lead, and them only.

  • Respect people’s confidentiality; what is brought up in the group stays in the group.

  • In the event of a fire or other emergency, please stay calm and follow the instructions from the Peer Mentors.

  • If you miss 3 consecutive sessions of a group without contacting us, your place will be given to someone else on the waiting list. You will not lose your place if you notify a Peer Mentor of your absence.

  • If you have a complaint about another group member or a Faraway staff member, please bring this up with a Peer Mentor. Your complaint will be treated confidentially and will be brought firstly to our line manager, and then to the board of Directors where appropriate

  • If you break one of the rules, we have the following warning system:

  1. You will receive a verbal warning

  2. You will receive a written warning

  3. You will be banned from the group

If you think a decision is wrong, you have the right to appeal to Faraway’s board of Directors
